Evanston Library Learns

#23 The FINAL Thing!!

October 4, 2008 · 1 Comment

Congratulations! You’ve reached the end of Evanston Library Learns, the Evanston Public Library’s Learning 2.0 Program.

For the FINAL Thing, we ask you to summarize your thoughts on this program.

Not sure what to write about? Here are some questions to think about to get you started (you don’t have to all these questions):

  • Overall, what did you think of the program?
  • What, specifically, did you like best or worst?
  • Were there Web 2.0 topics you would have liked to have learned that were not covered?
  • Do you think you’ll continue using any of the tools & resources we learned about outside of work?
  • How about for work? Which of these tools would you like to see EPL implement? Do you have specific project ideas for your department or the library?
  • Were there any obstacles that made it difficult to complete the program?
  • Do you have any suggestions on how future training programs could be better designed to attract all EPL staff?
  • How important were the prizes in motivating you to complete the program?
  • If it wasn’t the prizes, what was the biggest motivating factor that led you to complete this program?

Discovery Exercise:

  1. Write a blog post summarizing your thought on the Evanston Library Learns program.

I didn’t want to post this on the blog, because I’m trying to create it as a public document. I was glad to have a reason to explore all these different offerings and new ways to use the web. I personally think that I would need a lot more time than we had to really get used to using all the different approaches and to evaluate their usefulness.

From a professional standpoint, I can say that I am much more equipped to help patrons access these technologies and make use of them if they so choose.

I think it was hard for me to fully explore and evaluate each thing in the time I had available especially since I wasn’t just doing it for myself, but had to pass it through the screen of how it would play for a nonprofit organization.

I completed this program because it was of value to develop my own knowledge professionally to keep up with the different resources available to me as an information provider.

We did not cover the topic of webinars, but I am working on a program in which that technology, provided by the Foundation Center, could be made available to the public at the library paired with some in-person schmoozing and networking.

This was a worthwhile exercise, that I will be continuing to study in the future. I was glad to participate.

    Jennie
